<abstract>
<para>Female naked mole-rats (NMRs) are exceptionally long-lived (>40 years) and, unlike most mammals, show no decline in fertility with age. Within a colony, however, only a single dominant breeding female (the queen) reproduces, while the majority of females remain reproductively suppressed. If the queen is removed, subordinate females can transition into new breeders, restoring reproductive capacity. Recently, we demonstrated that oogenesis in NMRs occurs postnatally. Germ cell numbers increase markedly between postnatal day 5 (P5) and day 8 (P8), and primordial germ cells (PGCs) persist up to postnatal day 90 (P90), coexisting with germ cells at all stages of female differentiation.</para>
